More than 10,000 first trial visits have already been completed in the FinDementia trial at FVR – Finnish Vaccine Research clinics, as well as at our partners’ locations in wellbeing services counties and participating pharmacies.
In addition, more than 6,000 upcoming appointments are currently scheduled, meaning that the number of participants continues to grow steadily.
“The trial has progressed extremely well. The large participant population and long-term register-based follow-up provide a strong foundation for reliably determining whether shingles vaccination can help prevent dementia,” says Arto Palmu, Chief Scientific Officer at FVR.
FinDementia is a large randomized pragmatic vaccine trial investigating whether shingles vaccination can help prevent dementia. The aim is to recruit approximately 33,000 participants aged 76 years or older from across Finland.
The trial is still recruiting participants, and enrolment will remain open until the end of March 2027.
Participants’ health will be followed over the long term using national health registers. The first results are expected in 2030.
